Dog rescued after chip pan fire

A dog was rescued from a house in Barnsley after its owner set fire to the house with a chip pan.

Tankersley, Cudworth and Barnsley firefighters attended the incident on Raley Street, Kingstone at around 2.30am on Saturday (18 November).

A man escaped unharmed after a chip pan had been left on the hob unattended, but firefighters had to search the property to rescue the dog.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue firefighters attend dozens of incidents caused by chip pans or pans filled with hot oil each year, causing several injuries and occasionally deaths.

Residents are asked to use oven chips instead, or a thermostat controlled fryer.
