Laptop explodes

On 13 August at 3:34am Central blue watch were called to an incident on Furnival Street, Sheffield.

On arrival, they found that a laptop had exploded in the living room of the property. Two people suffered minor burns during the incident.

People are reminded to charge laptops through the day instead of at night, and never overcharge your electricals.

Large building fire next to prison

Six fire engines are currently at a building fire on Bawtry Road in Hatfield Woodhouse, Doncaster.

A large furniture storage building next to HMP Prison Lindholme, has been destroyed by fire.

The building is outside the Prisons boundary wall.

Fire crews from Thorne, Adwick, Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley and Epworth (Humberside Fire & Rescue) were called to the  incident at 12:15pm on Thursday.

Firefighters have been tackling the blaze with hose reels and as at 2pm the fire is now under control and  crews are damping down.

There are no reports of any casualties.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once the fire is completely out.

Fire at recycling plant in Rotherham

Five fire engines were called to a fire at a recycling plant on Bolton Road in Wath upon Dearne at 1:45am on Thursday.

Fire crews from Dearne, Rotherham and Doncaster stations attended the incident.  A large amount of rubbish for recycling was on fire inside a warehouse building.

Firefighters used hose reels to tackle the blaze.

Crews left the scene at 7am.

The fire is currently under investigation but is believed to have started accidentally.

Dog rescued by firefighters

A dog has been rescued by firefighters from a house fire on Maple Avenue in Cantley, Doncaster.

Fire crews from Adwick, Maltby and Edlington stations were called to the incident at 7:40pm on Wednesday.

The occupant was already outside the semi-detached house when crews arrived.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house and rescued the dog.  Crews administered oxygen to the dog to bring it round.  A vet was called to the incident to check on the dog.  It is believed that the dog is now recovering well.

The ground floor of the property was well alight.  Crews used hose reels to put the fire out.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will now take place.

Firefighters left the scene at 10pm.

Furniture workshop fire

Four fire engines were called out to a fire at a furniture workshop at 12:20am on Thursday morning.

Firefighters from Central, Rivelin and Elm Lane stations attended the incident on Harvest Lane in Sheffield.

There was a small fire in a store area which is believed to have started accidentaly due to linoleum cloths self igniting.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and used hose reels to quickly put the fire out.

Crews left the scene at 01:20am.

Garden fires warning after shed blaze

Firefighters are warning residents never to leave garden fires unattended, after a bonfire set light to a shed, garden furniture and rubbish.

The blaze on Southey Hall Drive broke out just before 11pm on Tuesday (26 July).

Elm Lane firefighters used a hose reel to put out the fire which had spread from an unattended garden brazier.

Crews left the scene at around 11.30pm.

Head of community safety Trevor Bernard said: “A bonfire doesn’t have to be a raging inferno for it to cause problems if it’s left unattended. Embers and sparks can easily blow away from smouldering fires, potentially igniting anything flammable nearby including trees, shrubs, sheds and buildings.”

Police appeal after body of 11-year-old boy recovered from Rotherham canal

Officers investigating the circumstances into the death of a young boy whose body was recovered from a Rotherham canal last night are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around the same time to please come forward.

At approximately 7pm yesterday (Thursday 21 July), police received reports that an 11-year-old boy, had been seen going into the canal near to Stonerow Way near Parkgate Retail, Rotherham but had disappeared soon after.

Specialist resources attended the scene, including South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the Ambulance Service. The body of the 11-year-old was recovered from the water at around 11pm.

Investigating officer Temporary Detective Inspector Graham Stead said: “We have a number of resources investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic incident where sadly a young life has been lost.

“We believe that the boy was with a group of around eight other young people when he entered the water at around 7pm.

“We are working to establish the full circumstances in the lead up to the incident but we would appeal for anyone who was in the area between 6pm and 7pm, and may have seen a group of young people or has any information, to please get in touch.”

No-one else was injured during the incident.

Formal identification is yet to have taken place and officers are working with both the coroner and family.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course


Following an extensive search of a Rotherham canal yesterday (Thursday 21 July), police have confirmed that specialist teams have recovered the body of an 11-year-old boy.

Emergency services received a report at around 7pm that a boy had been seen entering the canal, off Stone Row Way, but had disappeared soon after.

Specialist resources from all three emergency services attended the scene, including six fire engines with specialist water rescue equipment.  The body of the 11-year-old was found in the water at around 11pm.

The boy’s family has been informed and are being supported by police officers.

The circumstances are under investigation.

Hot BBQ + bin = fire

Crews from Central station attended three separate BBQ related incidents on Tuesday.

At 11:03pm crews were called to Rustlings Road, Sheffield. On arrival they found that a BBQ had been stacked with some rubbish next to a bin. Using backpacks they quickly put the fire out – there were no injuries.

At midnight crews were called to Rustlings Road, Sheffield. On arrival they found that a smouldering BBQ had been placed in the bin. They used backpacks to extinguish the flames – there were no injuries.

At 00:35am crews were called to Devonshire Street, Sheffield. On arrival they found that a BBQ had been stacked with some rubbish causing a fire. Using backpacks they quickly tackled the flames – there were no injuries.

Rotherham home damaged in gas explosion

Three fire engines were called to a property on Woodleys Avenue in Rawmarsh at 6:45pm on Sunday evening to reports of an explosion.

On arrival Rotherham and Dearne fire crews found the building badly damaged and a small fire in the living room area.  Firefighters used a hose reel to quickly put the fire out.

The explosion is believed to have been caused accidentally by a camping gas cylinder.

A man was injured in the incident and was taken by ambulance to hospital.

 

 

Firefighters tackle blaze at high rise building in Sheffield

Firefighters attended a fire at a high rise block of flats in Sheffield on Thursday evening.

Five fire engines attended the blaze on the eleventh floor of the flats on Martin Street at around 6.30pm.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and put out the blaze using hose reels.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
