Firefighters tackle coach fire on M1 motorway

Three lanes of the M1 Northbound, between junction 34 and 35, were closed this morning (Wednesday 5 May) whilst firefighters tackled a coach fire.

Crews from Rotherham, Elm Lane and Tankersley were called at 7.47am and used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

There were no passengers on board the coach and no injuries. It is believed the fire started accidentally.

Firefighters had left the scene by around 8.20am, with Highways England starting to open up lanes shortly after.
