Firefighters from Doncaster and Edlington were called to a derelict terraced house at 4.41am this morning (Friday 10 May).
Upon arrival they found the property, on Princes Crescent in Edlington, well alight – with neighbours already outside their homes due to smoke entering their properties.
Breathing apparatus wearers entered the house and had extinguished the fire, which had started in a downstairs living area, by 5.10am. They then proceeded to clear the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
It is believed the fire had been started deliberately by somebody setting fire to a bed within the property.
There were no injuries but staff from Yorkshire Ambulance Service did attend to carry out precautionary checks on some of the neighbours.
