Five appliances called to Rotherham recycling plant fire

Firefighters were called to a fire at a recycling plant on Gin House Lane in Munsbrough this weekend (Sunday 30 June).

Fire engines from Rotherham, Dearne, Elm Lane and Parkway – supported by a command support unit from Central – were called to the incident at around 0.13am.

Upon arrival they found numerous piles of recycling and some plant machinery all alight.

The crews initially worked to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby pile of tyres, and some other plant machinery, before using on-site machinery to break up the waste and extinguish the fire.

The fire was out by around 7.20am and there were no injuries.

In total it is understand that around 20 tonnes of rubbish – including plastic, paper, timber and mixed recyclables – were involved.
