Flat fire saved by sprinklers

A flat fire in Sheffield has been brought under control by a sprinkler system which prevented the fire from spreading.

Firefighters from Central and Parkway stations were called to the flat on Spring Close View at 4:40am on Sunday morning.

The front door, window and porch area were on fire, however sprinklers had actuated in the living room preventing the fire from spreading.

No one was home at the time, however a number of pets were found safe and well.

Firefighters left the scene at 6:30am

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

Head of prevention and protection Steve Helps, said: “As this incident proves automatic fire sprinklers are most effective during the initial stage of a fire occurring, as a properly installed sprinkler will detect the flames heat, initiate an alarm, and activate just moments after the flames appear.

“I am really pleased that this sprinkler system did its job and doused the flames to prevent it spreading to the rest of the flat.”
