The cause of a fire in which a man sadly lost his life on Wednesday (20 March) is thought to have started accidentally.

The fire started in the living room of the property and is believed to have involved materials used for smoking.

Fire investigators will now prepare their findings for the coroner.

A man has sadly died following a flat fire in Rotherham.

Fire crews were called to Gray Avenue in Swallownest on Wednesday night at 11.30pm.

Firefighters from Aston Park, Birley Moor and Parkway stations all attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
