Overnight incidents 21/22 April

Firefighters from Adwick were called to a fire on Pickering Road, Bentley at 8.31pm. Upon arrival they found a pile of domestic waste alight on the grounds of an old, derelict hospital. This was dealt with by 8.47pm and is thought to have been started deliberately, with a group of young people having been seen in the area.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to a fire on Cross Street, Thrybergh, at 8.39pm. Upon arrival they found some fly tipped rubbish on fire. This was extinguished by 9.10pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Adwick were called to a fire on Windsor Street, Thurnscoe, at 9.43pm. Upon arrival they found a large amount of domestic rubbish, approximately 5m x 5m, well alight. This was extinguished by 10.14pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to a fire on Fitzwilliam Road, Eastwood, at 10.02pm. Upon arrival they found a selection of household furniture in the rear garden of a property. This was extinguished 10.18pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Dearne and Adwick were called to a potential road traffic collision on Clayton Lane, Thurnscoe, at 10.49pm. Upon arrival they found a Mini Cooper trapped in a ditch – the driver of which, a man in his 30s, was trapped inside. The crews removed the doors, boot and roof of the car to extricate the casualty safely. He was handed over to the ambulance service, and the car was left in the hands of the police. Crews left the scene at 0.32am.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to a potential fire on St Anns Road, Eastwood, at 0.51am. Upon arrival they found a large amount of fly tipped rubbish in the front garden of an unoccupied property. This was extinguished by 1.17am and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Barnsley were called to a car fire on Canada Street, Worsborough, at 2.10am. Upon arrival they found a Citroen Picasso well alight. This had been dealt with by 2.54am and is thought to have been started deliberately – based on the fact that the car hadn’t been driven in a while.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to two cars on fire on Thrybergh Hall Road, Rawmarsh, at 2.40am. Upon arrival they found two cars, both on the same driveway, well alight. These were extinguished by 3.34am. It is thought the fires were started deliberately.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to a fire on Alma Road, Moorgate, at 4.23am. Upon arrival they found a fence well alight. This is thought to have been started deliberately and had been extinguished by 5.28am.
