Overnight incidents 3/4 May

Firefighters from Edlington and Dearne were called to Cadeby Lane, High Melton, at 7.22pm. Upon arrival they found five bales of hay well alight in a farmers field. This was dealt with by 8.17pm and is thought to have been started accidentally – this is due to the fact smoking materials were found in the area.

Firefighters from Rivelin were called to a potential house fire on Hall Park Hill, Sheffield, at 7.40pm. Upon arrival they found a small fire had been put out – further investigation showed that this had been started by a discarded cigarette setting fire to a plastic plant pot and then spreading to other nearby items. The crew left at 8.17pm.

Firefighters from Rotherham and Aston Park were called to reports of a man trapped in the River Don, near the Forge Island in Rotherham, at 7.50pm. Upon arrival they found a casualty aided by a buoy, but struggling to float, around five metres from the bank side. A firefighter, specially trained in technical and water rescue, entered the water to rescue the man before handing him over to the ambulance service. This incident was dealt with by 9pm.

Firefighters from Elm Lane were called to Horndean Road, Sheffield, at 8.01pm. Upon arrival they found a garden fire that was giving out lots of thick, black smoke. This was dealt with 8.30pm.

Firefighters from Cudworth were called to Hoober Hall Lane, Hoober, at 9.54pm. Upon arrival they found a large amount of rubbish had been dumped and set alight. This was completely blocking the road. This had been dealt with by 10.50pm.

Firefighters from Elm Lane were called to Castledine Gardens, Sheffield, at 10.30pm. Upon arrival they found a Nissan Micra well alight. The fire was extinguished by 11.07pm and is thought to have started accidentally – due to the starter motor.

Firefighters from Elm Lane were called to Roe Lane, Sheffield, at 0.12am. Upon arrival they found a rubbish fire had spread to a hedge, causing nearby guttering to melt. This was dealt with by 0.49am and is thought to have started with a discarded cigarette.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to Canklow Roundabout, Canklow, at 4.35am. Upon arrival they found loose rubbish alight at the side of the road. This is thought to have been started deliberately and was dealt with by 4.53am.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to Centenary Way, Canklow, at 4.52am. Upon arrival they found loose rubbish alight at the side of the road. This is thought to have been started deliberately and was dealt with by 5.03am.
