Fire crews attended instances of properties being struck by lightning in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A hairdressers’ on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, suffered fire damage after being struck just after 3am. Flames were coming out of the front window when firefighters arrived. They quickly put the blaze out and established that no one was in at the time.
The TV aerial serving neighbouring houses on Meadowhall Road, Kimberworth, was also hit just after 3am. The lightning passed through to the aerial point in the bedrooms – firefighters attended one of the properties immediately and made the room safe. However, nobody was in at the adjoining property and it wasn’t until neighbours heard smoke alarms activating at 8am when crews were called back. They found a fire had smouldered in the bedroom, causing some damage to furniture and smoke logging.
