Weekend incidents 12/14 May 2023

Friday 12 May

Five fire engines and one turntable ladder vehicle attended a fire at a recycling site on Ginhouse Lane, Rotherham after a call was received at 7.43pm. The incident was centred on two piles of waste on fire. Two jets were used to extinguish the fire. Firefighters left the scene at 11.44pm but a reinspection was carried out the next day at 9am to ensure the incident had been completely dealt with.

One crew from Doncaster attended a fire involving a garage on Childers Street, Hyde Park, Doncaster after a call was received at 11.11pm. One hose reel and one main jet was used to extinguish the fire. The fire caused the building to collapse. Firefighters left the scene shortly before 1am before an inspection later the following  morning.

Saturday 13 May

One crew from Rotherham attended a vehicle fire on a roundabout near College Road, Rotherham after a call was received at 12.49pm. On arrival crews found a car to be well alight. The crew used a hose reel and dry powder to extinguish the fire. The fire was caused accidentally and had been dealt with by 1.48pm.

One crew from Maltby attended a car fire caused by a road traffic collision on Bawtry Road, Hellaby, Rotherham after a call was received at 3.10pm. The engine bay had been on fire and a passer by had used an dry powder extinguisher to partly extinguish it. Firefighters used a hose reel to fully extinguish the fire. They ensured the battery for the vehicle was disconnected and left the scene at approximately 3.27pm.

Two fire engines attended a fire in a flat in the Westfield Centre, Sheffield after a call was received at 8.49pm. The flat had become smoked logged after hob in the kitchen had been left on and caught fire. Crews wearing breathing apparatus were able to isolate the appliance and extinguish the fire. They had dealt with the incident by 9.20pm.
