Weekend incidents – 15/16/17 May

Friday 15 May

Firefighters from Maltby, Aston Park and Birley Moor were called to Walesmoor Avenue, Kiveton Park, at 7.45pm. Upon arrival they found the bedroom of a house fully involved in fire. Everyone was out of the property as crews arrive and swift action meant the fire was limited to the one room – albeit there was smoke damage to the upper floor of the house. Nobody was injured and this was dealt with by 9.06pm. It is thought to have been started accidentally.

Firefighters from Thorne were called to Beech Crescent, Stainforth, at 10.02pm. Upon arrival they found a car alight some distance from the road. This was extinguished by 11.17pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Saturday 16 May

Firefighters from Barnsley, Cudworth and Tankersley were called to Grange View, Blacker Hill, at 3.49am. Upon arrival they found an outbuilding on fire next to a house. This fire is thought to have started when a cigarette was discarded onto some wooden decking. This was extinguished by 4.51am and nobody was injured.

Firefighters from Rotherham and Elm Lane were called to Meadow Street, Holmes, at 10.41am. Upon arrival they found smoke issuing from a flat and immediately entered the property. The breathing apparatus crew rescued one woman from inside the property and extinguished the fire inside, which was limited to the kitchen worktops and a toaster. It is understood that this fire started when the occupant tried to light a cigarette using a toaster. This was dealt with by 11.44am and the occupant did not require any medical treatment.

Firefighters from Tankersley were called to Preston Avenue Jump, Barnsley, at 11.07am. Upon arrival they found a shed, outbuilding and large quantity of timber well alight. This was dealt with by 12.32pm and is thought to have been started accidentally. There were no injuries.

Firefighters from Cudworth were called to The Green View, Shafton, at 9.26pm. Upon arrival they found an allotment shed well alight. This was extinguished by 10.35pm and is thought to have originated from a rubbish fire on the neighbouring allotment.

Sunday 17 May

Firefighters from Rotherham, Parkway and Aston Park were called to a suspected house fire on Canklow Road, Canklow, at 4.09am. Upon arrival they found the front and back doors of the property on fire, but nothing else. This was dealt with by 5.14am and is understood to have been deliberate.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to Greenwood Road, Kilnhurst at 1.58pm. Upon arrival they found a shed and fence well alight. This fire started when the contents of a brazier were disposed of behind the shed. This was dealt with by 3.24pm and one man in his 60s was given treatment for minor burns.
