A woman has sadly passed away after a house fire in Sheffield.

Firefighters were called to the property, on New Cross Drive, at 12.30pm yesterday.

Upon arrival they found the fire was out but the occupant, a lady in her 70s, had suffered significant burn injuries.

It is believed that this fire started when smoking materials, likely a cigarette, set the casualty’s clothes on fire.

Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this very sad time.
