Fire fatality in Rotherham

A man has died following a fire at his home in Rotherham.

Crews were called to the incident on Glaisdale Close at 12:01pm on Sunday 12 November.

Firefighters from Doncaster, Maltby and Rotherham attended the incident. It is believed to have been a slow burning fire and it was already out when firefighters were called to the incident.

A man, believed to be in his 70s, was sadly found to have died.

A multi-agency investigation in to the cause of the fire will now take place.

Residents rescued from flat fire

Fire engines were called to a block of flats on Longley Hall Road in Sheffield just before 7pm on Tuesday evening.

Three fire crews from Elm Lane, Rivelin and Central stations attended. The fire was in a communal stairway with a number of residents trapped on the top floor.

Firefighters put ladders up to the third floor window to create an escape route if needed. Fortunately fire crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and then led the five residents safely down the stairs.

Luckily no one was injured in the incident.

The fire crews left the scene just after 8pm.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

Head of Emergency Response Tony Carlin said; “This was a very dangerous and life-threatening situation, our crews dealt with it in a very professional manner ensuring all residents from the affected flats were rescued quickly and safely.

“We treat all acts of arson extremely seriously and are working closely with South Yorkshire Police to identify those responsible and to prevent further instances occurring.

Vehicles set on fire at car show room

Three fire engines were called out to vehicles on fire at a car show room on Station Road in Chapeltown just after 10pm on Tuesday night.

Fire crews from Elm Lane, Tankersley and Rivelin stations arrived to find three cars and two vans on fire on the forecourt.  The fire also spread slightly to the ouside of the show room.

Firefighters used hose reels to tackle the blaze.

Fire crews left the scene at 12:30am.

It is believed that the fire was started deliberately.

Man dies following flat fire

A man has died following a fire at his flat in Sheffield.

Crews from Elm Lane, Rivelin and Central attended the incident shortly after 7:15am, Saturday 28 October on Colley Drive.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property, which was heavily smoke logged. The occupant was sadly found to have died.

A multi-agency investigation will take place to determine the cause of the fire.

Industrial machinery fire in Rotherham

Four fire crews from Rotherham, Dearne, Elm Lane and Maltby stations were called to an industrial fire at the Northfield Industrial Estate on North Drive in Northfield, Rotherham at 10:45 pm on Monday night.

When crews arrvied at the scene an industrial machine was well alight and had spread to a skip and recycling material.

Firefighters using main jets worked hard to tackle the blaze.

Fire crews left the scene at 00:50am.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally.

Caravan fire

Fire crews were called to a caravan on fire at 12:45am on Friday morning.

Two crews from Barnsley and Cudworth stations attended the incident on Low Row in Woolley Colliery Village, Barnsley

The touring caravan which was in a back garden was well alight when the firefighters arrived.

The crews used hose reels to tackle the fire.

Firefighters left the scene at 01:45am.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

Fire crews tackle flat fire

Fire crews were called this morning at 7am to a flat fire on Doncaster Road in Goldthorpe, Barnsley.

The flat which was above a shop was well alight when firefighters from Dearne, Adwick and Edlington attended.

There was no-one in the flat at the time and the fire crews worked hard to keep the fire contained to just one room.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to tackle the fire.

Fire crews left the scene at 11am.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will now take place, though initial thoughts are that this was an accidental fire.

Skip and lorry fire

Four fire engines were called to a fire inside a building on Retford Road in Woodhouse Mill, Rotherham at 3am on Wednesday morning.

Fire crews from Aston, Parkway and Birley Moor stations attended the incident.  A large skip was on fire on the back of a lorry which was inside a warehouse type building.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used main jets to bring the fire under control.

The fire crews left the scene at 5:15am.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally.

Candle sparks bedroom fire

Three fire engines were called to a house fire on Thursday evening just after 8:30pm on Old Hall Mews in Bramley, Rotherham.

Fire crews from Maltby, Rotherham and Edlington arrived to find the occupant already out of the house.  The fire was in a bedroom and is believed to have started due to a candle.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to put the fire out which was contained to the bedroom area.

The woman occupant was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The fire crews left the scene at 11:50pm.

Firefighters are reminding people of the basic safety measures when using candles:

  • Don’t leave lit candles unattended in a room
  • Keep candles and tea lights in propber holders and well away from anything that could catch fire, like curtains
  • Keep candles, matches and lighters well away from children.

Driver injured following aerosol spray explosion

The driver of a car has been injured following what is believed to have been an explosion after spraying an air freshener in his car and then lighting a cigarette.

Fire crews from Edlington station in Doncaster were called to the scene on Sheffield Road in Conisbrough just after 9am on Saturday 26 August.

The fire was out when firefighters arrived but the explosion had caused significant damage to the vehicle and resulted in the driver being injured.

Firefighters are now warning people about the potential dangers of using aerosol cans in confined spaces and to make sure that your vehicle is well ventilated if using smoking materials.
