Spate of deliberate fires in Doncaster overnight

Firefighters from Doncaster, Adwick, Askern and Edlington tackled a number of deliberate fires in Doncaster overnight.

At 8:52pm, a crew from Edlington attended a deliberate fire in which a number of tyres had been set alight. They left around 9:30pm.

A crew from Askern were called out at 9:40pm to a deliberate fire on Marlborough Road in which some corn stubble had been set on fire. They spent around 35minutes putting it out.

In the early hours of the morning, Adwick attended an incident in which some traffic cones had been set alight in a car park at Cusworth Hall.

Crews from Doncaster also attended a deliberate fire at 2:12am in Bentley in which two wheelie bins had been set on fire. They left just after 2:35am.

The series of incidents, all within a matter of hours of eachother, has prompted the service to re-iterate its #DoYourBit summer fire safety campaign advice.

In order to help stamp down the number of needless, deliberate fires crews are being called to, the service is asking that people:

  • Don’t leave wheelie bins out overnight and keep gardens and streets free of rubbish
  • Don’t have bonfires during warm weather and be careful with disposable barbeques – not just when using them but when binning them too
  • Report arson to the police and speak to your kids about the dangers of fire-setting
