Firefighters from Central and Elm Lane were called to a house on Greenland View this weekend (Saturday 6 April) to reports of a house fire.

On arrival, after being called at 6.45pm, they found a kitchen heavily smoke logged after a chip pan fire. The fire was out as they got there but the occupant was suffering with smoke inhalation.

Crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke and provided first aid to the man before he was taken to hospital.

The incident had been dealt with by 7.30pm.
