Medication

Some prescription medication can cause similar side effects to recreational drugs and alcohol, making you feel drowsy.

As well as limiting your ability to carry out general tasks around the home, this can also mean you are more vulnerable, and potentially slow down your escape from a developing fire.

Here’s our top tips for staying safe when on medication – be it yourself who is affected or someone you care for:

  1. Ask the doctor if your medication will make you drowsy
  2. Avoid cooking if you’re on strong medication – get a take away instead or seek support from loved ones
  3. Ensure cigarettes and candles are properly extinguished before going to bed
  4. Don’t drive whilst under the influence of prescription drugs
