Salary: Grade 8 (£39,862 – £42,839)


Hours: Full Time - 37 Hours per week (Flexi Time)

Work Pattern: Mon – Fri


Location: 97 Eyre Street Sheffield


An opportunity has arisen within our Finance section for a Finance Business Partner, based at Headquarters in Sheffield.

The overall purpose of the role will be to support the Accountancy Manager by providing operational leadership for all financial and management accountancy, treasury management and capital accounting related matters and for giving high quality and timely advice and guidance to the Financial Services Manager.

To support the Accountancy Manager in proactively contributing towards the efficient and effective delivery of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s strategic objectives and priorities and in doing so adhere to professional and regulatory practices.

Responsible for the preparation and monitoring of revenue estimates, reconciliation of accounts, compliance with relevant accounting codes of practice, assistance with audit, grants, voluntary funds, statistical returns, compliance with financial regulations and standing orders.

To be considered for this role you will have a proven experience of working in a finance environment, including financial management and accounting experience.

You must possess a CCAB qualification or be a CCAB finalist.

The key duties will include:

  • Responsibility for a portfolio of service areas and supporting the Accountancy Manager in ensuring systems are in place and maintained to produce draft revenue budgets and forward plans.
  • Being responsible for and supporting the Accountancy Manager in ensuring appropriate systems of financial control exist to provide effective monitoring throughout the organisation and to provide appropriate revenue monitoring to support reporting.
  • Being responsible for and supporting the Accountancy Manager in promoting and implementing a business-partnering approach to managing the finances of the organisation. This approach aims to garner greater financial awareness and understanding across budget holders and budget managers, enabling them to be properly and fully accountable for the finances they are responsible for.
  • Providing assurance to the Accountancy Manager in maintaining an internal financial control, policy, and procedural framework that meets relevant professional and best practice standards for promoting effective financial management, control, and reporting.
  • Providing and maintaining financial forecasting and the production of the revenue budget and medium-term resources plan in accordance with the planning cycle to the Accountancy Manager. This includes providing constructive challenge to staff where plans are unclear or pose financial risks and proactively supporting them to find solutions and achieve value for money.

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.

Most of our corporate roles offer flexi time and agile working, meaning people can vary their hours to suit their commitments outside of work as agreed with their line manager. Flexi time can be accrued with a potential of up to 13 days to be taken within a year.
