Contingency control crew

Contingency Fire Control Crew

Whilst SYFR respects the right of staff to undertake industrial action, there is a legal duty placed upon the Fire Authority to provide emergency cover to the public they serve. Therefore we are advertising for Contingency Fire Control crews to enable us to provide emergency response cover to the public by answering emergency calls in the event of local or national industrial action taken by firefighters and control staff.

The role involves receiving emergency 999 and non-emergency calls, mobilising the required resources to resolve incidents, liaising with partner agencies, and radio communications with the firefighters responding to incidents. Training and supervision will be provided and an initial 5 day training course must be attended.

The key skills we are looking for are excellent verbal and written communication; ICT literacy; and an ability to remain calm, professional and compassionate in pressurised situations.

Contractual Information

Individuals will work on a zero hours basis and SYFR will not be obligated to provide individuals with any hours of work.

Pay: You will receive the rate of £10.49 per hour when you are undertaking training/familiarisation work.

When called upon to work during periods of industrial action you will receive £13.40 per hour.

Retention Fee: You will receive £100 for every month of availability you provide after completing your initial training and this payment will continue whilst ever there is the immediate potential for Industrial Action. Please be aware that to receive the retention payment you must attend relevant ongoing training.

Contract Type: You will be contracted to work only when required by the organisation. There will be no guarantee of future work – this is called a Zero Hours Contract.
