Fallen lamp causes flat blaze

On Saturday at 5:17pm firefighters from Central, Parkway and Birley Moor green watches attended an incident on Arundel Street, Sheffield.

We treat all acts of arson extremely seriously and are working closely with South Yorkshire Police to identify those responsible and to prevent further instances occurring.  Incidents such as these take up a large amount of our resources when they could be needed at genuine life-threatening emergencies.

Small fires have the potential to spread to properties and could put lives at risk.

If residents have any information about people starting fires in their area, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Firefighters are now warning people of the dangers of open water:

•The water can be much deeper than you expect
•Rivers, lakes, canals and reservoirs are much colder than you think
•Open water can carry water borne diseases, like Weils disease
•Cold water dramatically affects your ability to swim
•There may be hidden currents, which can pull you under the water
•You don’t know what lies beneath, like pieces of rubbish or reeds which can trap or injure you

Garden fires warning after blaze spreads to shed

Firefighers have issued a stark warning to residents after yet another blaze caused by a garden fire which had got out of control.

A shed caught fire after a garden bonfire was left unattended in Sheffield.

The fire on Adlington Road broke out at around 10pm on Monday (15 August).

Crews also attended a bonfire involving tree cuttings on Edmunds Road, Worsborough Dale at around 9pm.

The fire had to be put out by Barnsley firefighters after it had got dangerously out of control.

Head of community safety Trevor Bernard, said: “If at all possible, don’t have fires in your garden at all. They can be a nuisance to neighbours and also put your property at risk. If you must have a fire, make sure it is sited well away from buildings, sheds and trees and never be tempted to use petrol or any other accelerant to get it going.”
